| About the Northwest Mountain Cruise The Northwest Mountain Cruise originates out of Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a guided motorcycle tour taking us into the following areas of Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and Wilderness Area inside the Spring Mountain National Recreational Areas: The First part of this run is brief taking us south of La Madre Mountains and east of the Rainbow Mountain Wilderness Area near the *Red Rock Canyon Area where we'll enjoy a format of layered sandstone, similar to what is found at the Valley of Fire & Zion National Park. The Second aspect of our 130 mile journey takes up and across the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, in Mount Charleston, Kyle and Lee Canyon. This is a slow paced enjoyable trip carrying us through canyons, mountainous regions reaching 10,000 elevations of twisty roads, long sweeping curves, the smell of pine, the smoke of fire places and beautiful log-cabins set in a breath taking scenery that is always a pleasure and an escape from the city of Las Vegas. The Third part of our journey takes us into an old log cabin restaurant for a mid-morning breakfast or lunch, included as part of the tour. From here, we'll get busy on the tallest part of the tour winding ourselves around the sides of a few mountains eventually reaching for the tip of 10,000 feet. We'll take lots of awesome photos of you & your group, depending on our time. As far as weather goes, this is COLD in the winter for a motorcycle ride. We've seen friends shivering down the road more that once or twice for lack of being pre-pared. The early summer and fall is really an ideal time for Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest and summer months are mild. Some riders have gone up in a t-shirt with no gloves and then reality starts to set in that you're no longer in the warm desert and paid the price when we start hitting 8k, 9k and 10,000ft elevations. We've found ourselves loaning out gloves and neck wear to help out the frozen. You've no doubt heard the term, motorcycle cold that you can't escape. You just get colder and colder, sort of like Jim Carey on a mini-bike from the movie dumb and dumber ;)! That being said, keep in mind you go from the desert to huge elevation in minutes and best to be prepared. In mountain environments, weather can always be a factor. For the most part though, Mount Charleston is around 20 to 30 degrees cooler than Las Vegas. If it's 60 degrees, which is great riding weather in Vegas, it'll be below freezing there. Then when you add 60mph to the venue, people want to go home, especially if you have a whiney teen on a bike. Mount Charleston peeks out around 12,000 ft - What you say? Yes, she's a big mountain, a favorite of the guides and we'll take our bike every inch we can climb her which will be at 10,000 feet. Alaska has 10 of the tallest mountains in the United States which ranges from 20.1 to 14.5 thousand feet to give you some idea what we are talking about - 12,000 at the summit. There's NO gas anywhere to be found in the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest so we need to start with a FULL tank for most 3.5 gallon tanks. There are plenty of pull-outs for photography. This means that if you cruised the strip and used up your gas, please put some more it prior to the tour. :) * Red Rock Canyon. Please see our notes on the scenic drive 13 mile road. We do not hire out as guides for this very short (aspect). We'll go into the area and take you up to the scenic drive and meet you when finished. It will take you about 30 minutes to an hour tops with photos to make the loop. There's only one way in and one way out, sort of a roller coaster ride :). This in fact allows you the opportunity to drive and photograph at your own pace.
Making the trip come alive!
Mostly at dusk we've seen a variety of wild life on the roads from mountain lions, deer, rabbits, snakes, lizards and squirrels.

Hard to believe, 100 degrees in
Vegas around mid May and still snow on the mountain. It's a nice cool
ride! A few miles before we stopped here with other clients, a mountain lion ran across our path no more than about 50 yards in front of us. I was thinking what a scrap that would have been to hit something like a Mountain Lion, if you didn't get hurt from the hit, the lion would finish you off.
Another 50 yards in front of us was a crew of road
workers, the priceless look on their faces said everything that needed
to be said when we told them what just crossed our path.
